Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation is a process of therapy interventions supervised by a specialized physician called a Physiatrist. This medical specialty is focused on patients whose functional abilities – dressing, bathing, walking, and grooming, for instance – have been impaired through accident, injury, or illness.
A rehabilitation physician manages this medical care, along with a 24-hr staff of nurses. Assisting with the medical management are physician specialists whom the rehabilitation physician may call in. Diet is an important aspect of medical care because different medical conditions have different nutritional needs. Especially for those patients who can not eat by mouth, a Registered Dietitian, helps plan the appropriate diet to make sure patients are up to participating in their therapy.
A rehabilitation nurse provides 24/7 care including medication management, pain management, and daily assessment of physical condition.
